Overcoming Your Self-Sabotage Mountain
Even when we take significant steps to clear out the baggage in our minds, there is still a mountain of memories that seem to haunt us. They affect self-talk, dreams, sleeping habits, body shape, and relationships. They just seem to rear their ugly little heads every time we are making any progress in life, creating the perfect self-sabotage. This can feel discouraging, as if the past is disabling any hopes for recovery.
So what else can we do to fully heal? How can we share a room with someone who created terrible distress in our lives and feel only peace for them? We know healing is through faith in God and takes time. It is not time that passes the pain, time is only a measurement of opportunities to heal. Are you taking the appropriate steps every day to naturally create results you want AND do you believe you deserve those results? |
So here’s what we found when we dove into the cause of my self-sabotage pattern; there was a MOUNTAIN of repressed memories. A whole mountain! Not a tiny little hill either, but a mountain as big and intense of a climb as Everest!
Let’s call this a self-sabotage mountain of repressed memories. I like to think of repressed memories as the body’s way of protecting you from serious traumatic memories, but if they keep negatively affecting you, something must be done.
Let’s call this a self-sabotage mountain of repressed memories. I like to think of repressed memories as the body’s way of protecting you from serious traumatic memories, but if they keep negatively affecting you, something must be done.
Let’s do a visualization to deal with this mountain. It’s amazing how the mind has such power to create the reality you desire or to change your reality simply due to intentions. Your thoughts have significant power which means negative thoughts are just as powerful.
After settling in and living in this mansion for many years, this mansion looks very different on the inside as it was very difficult to maintain. Over the years your home has slowly become a hoarder’s house. You don’t know exactly how it happened, just slowly over time stuff began to pile up. There is trash piled to the ceiling in every room, all the bedrooms are barricaded with stuff you don’t need or use. Dishes overflow onto the floor, the bathrooms aren’t functioning, and furniture is torn up and uncomfortable as they are covered in fecal matter from the excess of pets you rescued. You cannot even climb into bed to receive rest because there is so much “stuff” blocking the way, you aren’t even sure you could find the bed if you tried. The amount of work to clean up is overwhelming and leaves you feeling drained and defeated.
You have one tiny spot that is clean where you spend most of your time and that is in front of the windows facing the street. You find a great deal of comfort and peace in this small space, but the amount of work ahead is overwhelming and it feels easier to stuff it all away into another room and quickly shut the door… Like you have been doing for many years. Unfortunately, it’s starting to spill out of those rooms and it is now affecting your ability to breathe clean air, your ability to relax or receive rest. You are embarrassed to have anyone over so you keep everyone out of your home for fear of them seeing what’s inside. You no longer want to continue living this way.

When you walk inside, you see something you have never seen before. Exponential value, cleanliness, order, and you begin feeling proud of this home of yours.
You walk from room to room and see the filth has been made clean. What was broken is now working. The excess of stuff has been organized into piles. Each one is labeled. Donate, share, keep, fix, recycle, trash. You are rather curious of this organization system. Christ explains to you: the “donation” items represent all that was once usable and necessary, but no longer needed; stuff you need to let go. The “share” items represent items you can use to uplift others, to share little by little with those who cross your path to improve their lives. The “keep” items represent personal items that need to remain because it offers comfort, safety and happiness. These items can be visible to guests or family and can also become a part of your wardrobe to represent your personality. The “fix” items represent items remaining that are broken and needing extra special attention, something valuable that can become beautiful again with a little creativity. These items are to remind you of the value of hard work and how sometimes the past leaves scars, but can be reinvented into something else more useful than before. The “recycle” items represent what was highly useful, but ready to become converted into another item with a complete transformation. The “trash” pile represents items that no longer serve anyone, items that need to be removed as they only bring a remembrance of filth.
|
The angels quickly tend to these piles and remove that which is ready to be removed. The trash and recycle pile is removed completely. The donation items are removed and taken to others who are currently in the place you once were. The share and keep items are nicely organized within your home but the “keep” items are put away. The “fix” items remain as Christ places them gently in a row and steps back to stand by your side. He asks you if you would like some assistance creating a work of art. You accept and together you tackle each item, one by one. You watch as His hands seem to glide over the workings and components as if He had a deep respect and love for the spirit within. You ask Him to lead, while working together as a team. You find great joy in participating in this grand gesture of service and productivity. Time seems to pass quickly and all the items that were once broken are instead recreated into beautiful workings of art. As you look at each one, they are far more beautiful than before, they have more useful purposes and they each seem to encompass love as they represent hard work, a second chance and a new creation. Each one is stronger than before.
Christ asks you if you would like to see the improvements. You agree and He walks with you from room to room. The space is clean, organized and livable. The family room has a sofa to rest upon and socialize with friends. Your bedroom has a magnificent canopy bed with draping’s made of a shimmery glowing fabric that seems to dance with the wind coming in from the windows. You have a library/office filled wall to wall with books to expand your mind. The kitchen is full of nutritious food that is welcome and offers strength and vitality. The water is beaming with the joy of its creation as it is alive. The items within your home are useful, they bring you joy and you see how each have a function created perfectly. This home is designed to sustain life. It is designed to protect you from the storms of life. It is open for many to enter in and find loving safety within. Everything about your home now breathes life and energy. The roof is permanently made of crystal glass facing upwards as it is open to the heavens for a source of energy, strength and light.
You desire to share this home with others. You begin to imagine how you want your spouse, kids and friends to share in the beauty of this home. You even desire to find ways to serve others with this home as it is a gift, one that you finally are ready to share with others. You feel a deep level of respect for your home and you desire to change the ways you treat your home. You learned how you cared for this home in the past brought suffering and therefore with this fresh start, you desire to keep your home to clean. You commit to change so you may experience a better result in the future as maintenance requires daily effort.
|
Christ offers you a hug and says His goodbyes. You thank Him for offering you everything He has; His time, talents, and love. He kisses your forehead and departs into a ray of bright light. Energy, love and excitement fill your heart as you find great joy in the value of your home. What a treasure to be gifted such an amazing creation to house your spirit. One that is like unto a temple as it is worthy of reverence, respect, kindness, patience, forgiveness, order, and the light of the atonement. You commit to maintaining this beautiful home and even improving it every day in the ways Christ showed you through His loving example.
|
Imagine inviting all the healing light that traveled through your home into your body, mind and spirit and watch as it journeys into every crevice, avenue and location; offering healing light freely. This light can be experienced anytime you so choose. Then invite and absorb into your body compassion, tolerance, love and peace to freely flow as a fountain of living energy continuously flowing throughout your being.
